 College Application
« Thread Started on Jan 12, 2008, 6:27pm »

Right, this is where I might come to seek college advice from people who've been, right?

Well, I have just filled in a practice college application and handed it in to the HS to assess... I was thinking of taking up a Travel & Tourism course - National Diploma.

- What do you guys think?
- What have you guys chosen for courses?
- Would you rather go to a college across the street or one which is in quite a distance so you could start afresh?

Mmm, many more questions but I'll come back to them when I need an opinion/answer for them...

Thanks~

::)

- Take courses you're interested in. Believe me, you'll enjoy college more.
- Take a variety of courses. I know, I just said ones you're interested in, but who knows? You may end up changing your major because you find something you love, not just like.
- I got a selection for my gen ed courses. It was a small selection because of my major (Eng. Ed. you don't have to take as many gen eds for that major and you can "double dip" for gen eds and majors with it). The courses I'm taking right now are mostly my major courses, English, Education, Communication, and a gen ed: Math. If you like politics, I highly recommend Political Science for a social science gen ed. And Astronomy for a general science. My school makes us take a lab course, so I'll eventually have to take a bio lab.
- The university I attend is an hour and a half away from my home. In my oppinion, it's the perfect distance, especially since my car doesn't run well enough to get me here. That means my Mom can come and pick me up when I need her to, but she doesn't have to be out here every weekend.

I hope some of that helped at least.
If you liked my advice, I'd be happy to help out. I'm only in my 4th semester, but I've pretty much got a lot of things worked out already.

Thanks - great advice! It really helped me a lot.

And about the various selections thing - I could do that but only for 'A' levels (just 4 the first year then 3 for the second year but 5 if you're really clever!)

I think they're boring because it's mainly consisting of general subjects which I'm doing in high school so that's why I'm planning on doing a National Diploma subject which equals 3 A levels - enough to hopefully get me into university...

You've really helped a lot... :)
